Winter Wonderland

There’s thigh high snow outside, a nice layer of ice on the roads, and winds gusting to 45mph, but I’m nice and warm inside!  We had a snow day from work today, so I had some time to put together some of my pictures of all the winter weather we’ve been having on the east cost.  These aren’t all from the same day, so there are some in the midst of the blizzard, some from the calm after the storm, and some taken inside when it was just too bad to go out.

I found the snow really difficult to photograph because it’s hard to get the exposure just right.  If it’s just a little overexposed you get blown out white, and lose any texture from the snow.  But it’s interesting to see how the mood changes from kinda dramatic when it’s overcast with the snow, to almost magical when the sun comes out and creates sparkling light off the snow and ice.

To all those stuck in the snow, have fun digging out.  And to those that aren’t, send warm thoughts our way!
