So I took a few doggie shots of Jonnie’s dog Dixie when I was shooting their engagement pictures. But this time it was all about the family dog. Dan & Theresa wanted to have their Christmas card pictures taken with their puppy, Grizzly, at their brand new house. She was such a supermodel dog! With the help of quite a few treats and good direction from her parents, she sat still and would always look at the camera when I said “Look”!
I did have a few technical issues on this shoot. I chose a wide aperture setting thinking that since this was a portrait session, I wanted to have my subjects crisp in the foreground and the background a little blurred so that they would stand out. But I found in many of my pictures that all three faces weren’t in the same plane, which caused one face to be in focus and the rest to be blurry. Unfortunately my picture viewer was too small for me to pick up on this, but the effect ended up working well for a few of the shots.
Shooting indoors was also a little new for me, I really like natural light and I haven’t had a lot of practice inside. Luckily there was enough indoor light that there was no need for a flash, I didn’t want to freak out Grizzly! But despite those few setbacks, I think this little family will have some pretty cute Christmas Cards =)
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, we made it through the whole shoot with only one minor ladybug attack (one flew into my ear and in an attempt to get it out, I squashed it and had bug guts in my ear, so gross). But I guess there could be worse things that try to take over your brand new house…
